Why Study Biology Here?

Full course name: Biology AS
Year running: 17/18
Awarding body: AQA

Biology is never far from the headlines. In Kenya, 350 people die every day from AIDS and in South East Asia the skies are dark with smoke as the last rainforests of Borneo are burned to grow oil palms. Biologists are concerned with all these issues. Biologists work in the fields of cell biology, medicine, food production and ecology and the work they do is vital to us all. You will receive a high standard of teaching, learning and assessment in well-equipped labs, and excellent study support from highly qualified staff. Lessons are supportive and highly motivating.

You will study biological molecules; how viruses cause disease, energy and ecosystems, stem cells and how they are used in treating conditions such as diabetes and cystic fibrosis; how the nervous and hormonal systems control responses; how DNA controls the cell and how genes are used in forensic science and in treating disease.
