Why Study Film Studies Here?

Full course name: Film Studies AS
Year running: 17/18
Awarding body: WJEC GCE

This subject offers you the opportunity to develop your theoretical understanding of cinema through the study of the "language" of film (cinematography, mise-en-scene, sound and editing), how audiences "read" that language to make meaning and how the film industry finances, produces, markets and exhibits films. You will also investigate the concept of representation by analysing the messages and values contained in a range of different films.

The syllabus often requires close and detailed analysis of short sequences from films and although some units build on your knowledge and experience of commercial cinema, many of the case studies will be from historical, classic, alternative and world cinema.

To do this course you will need to meet our entry requirements.
